OVERVIEW

Agnes Scott College is a private liberal arts college, which is especially for women students. The college is also a church college that opens to students of all beliefs, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. It has enrolled 998 students in total including 84 postgraduates, only 1% of whom are male.

Agnes Scott was founded in the year of 1889 and has grown rapidly ever since. The college has been built in the suburban area in downtown Decatur for decades. Students are able to commute between Decatur and Atlanta by subway.

The college is mainly set for undergraduate students; it only enrolls a small number of postgraduates every year. Agnes Scott offers bachelor’s and post-bachelor’s certificate. One thing noteworthy is that students studying Agnes Scott are also encouraged to join combined-degree programs.

Based on the data given by U.S News Rankings, Agnes Scott is considered to be the best women’s college in the southeast America. It is ranked 59th in the liberal arts college category among domestic colleges.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the college are required to possess high school diplomas. General Educational Development (GED) is equally effective. It also requires applicants to take standardized tests like SAT or ACT. At the same time, admission interview and a general college-preparatory program are highly recommended during the application. Among all non-academic factors, applicant’s abilities and characters are considered to be very important.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuitions and fees for year 2011-2012 is USD 32,195. Students are estimated to spend USD 10,150 for accommodation.

Two kinds of scholarships are offered in Agnes Scott. The Need-based scholarships will offer each applicant USD 25,131 while the Non-need-based scholarships will offer each applicant USD 19,727.
