OVERVIEW

Acadia University is a public university in Canada. It is a predominantly undergraduate university, with some programs at master’s level and one at the doctoral level offered. Registered as a charitable organization in 1967, the university is still carrying out programs to achieve the charitable purposes. It has an enrollment of about 3,485 students, including 3,030 undergraduates and 455 post graduates.

Acadia University was founded in 1838 as a Baptist religious affiliation in Horton, Nova Scotia. The campus is located about 100 kilometers northwest of Halifax, the provincial capital city of Nova Scotia, including several historic buildings like Carnegie Hall, and Seminary House which is the oldest residence in Canada.

The university offers diploma, associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. It has pioneered the use of mobile computing technology ever since 1996. The Acadia Advantage, as the academic initiative of the college, realized the integration of the use of notebook computers into the undergraduate curriculum, as a featured teaching innovation.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Both online and paper applications are accepted. Applicants are required to supply a high school, college, or university transcript. If you are applying form a Canadian high school, you can choose to self-report your grades as part of your application, and you do not need to send one from school until the final transcription is available. After you submit your application, the status can be checked online so that you can be informed if any additional materials or documents are needed.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuitions for the 2011-2012 academic year is USD 5,369 to 6,653, and for international students, the amount is USD 13,410. In addition, it takes about USD 3,585 to 4,025 for meals, and $4,610 to 7,490 for housing.

Over USD 3.4 million is awarded annually in scholarship, bursaries, scholar-bursaries, awards and prizes at Acadia. For students who need financial aids, a range of programs are available, including NS Student Loan, OSAP, NL Student Loan, BC Student Loan, United States William D. Ford Direct Loan Program, etc.
